What a super evening I had singing with Mandy Woods and Mae Day at the beautiful Newton Manor Hall in one of the music evenings which are run by the wonderful Alan May. Thank you to every single person who turned up helping to raise money for Swanage community café and garden project. You were such a super audience and the layout of the room made it a fun intimate atmosphere. It felt like a night in with friends! The evening was part of the Women and Song series, the brainchild of Mandy Woods, aiming to put the original songs of female songwriters in the Spotlight. The evening started off with Mae day (Mae Wilson) playing both covers and her own beautiful original songs. She has a gorgeous voice, very reminiscent of the late great Amy Winehouse and a lovely relaxed manner that makes you feel as if it’s just you and her in the room. In my set, I played with my looper and also played the gorgeous mini grand piano that is beautifully positioned under the impressive stairway. Huge thanks to Pete Christie who was on sound and had quite a lot to deal with, moving the mics around, but made us all sound terrific.Mandy Woods sang some of my favourites… “Miniature hot dog blues” “before you”, “Meg Ryan‘s hair”.. along with a new one. “Barefoot in Bali” might have been its name. It was a lovely songThanks again to Alan, Pete, Mae, Mandy, to everybody who helped promote the night, to Bob who bought one of my albums, to Jeremy for the photos 🙂 and to the wonderful audience xx
